Why Choose This Activity
Word Sprint fits a short verbal warm-up when you want lively language practice without reading or writing. It works well in Memory Care with a partner and in Sharp Mind when you want a quick fluency challenge. The 45-second rounds keep momentum up without tiring the participant.
Timed verbal naming with flexible categories and difficulty gives you a structured way to observe word retrieval without auto-grading or pressure to type.
How It Plays
Choose difficulty and a category such as Animals or Foods, then reveal the challenge and start the 45-second sprint. The participant names items that match the prompt while you mark each response Valid, Duplicate, or Invalid. The round ends when time runs out; score is the count of unique correct answers.
Settings & Difficulty
Levels: No difficulty settings
- Easy: open-ended naming with no starting letter
- Normal: Animals and Foods always use a letter; other categories use one about half the time
- Hard: every round uses a starting letter; harder categories such as Languages appear here
- Colors is open on Easy and letter-based on Hard only
- Optional speech transcript on supported devices - tallies remain authoritative
Facilitator Tips
- Start on Easy with familiar categories until the participant understands the pacing.
- Use the eye toggle to hide tallies when the numbers might distract or discourage.
- When a starting letter is shown, tap ? beside the timer bar for sample answers if you need a nudge.
- Your tallies are the score - accept reasonable answers even if spelling would differ on paper.
- Tap minus or the reset icon promptly if you miscount mid-sprint.
